If you click the circular icon, the big map opens, and you can actually use it to plot a course - clicking on the map sets your target destination to that position. The small cross in thhe top right corner of the map closes it. The big map also draws a line between your current position (the yellow circle) and your destination (the red circle), like so:

For the time being, the big map is only available within the realm. Thus if you enter another location, the circle icon will vanish:

The original maps were fine for my old laptop, but as you can see from the above screenshots there's very little space for the avatars underneath them - and it's even worse on my netbook. So that's where the arrow icon (in the top right corner of the top map) comes in. In full sized mode, the maps look like this:

But if you click the arrow, the maps shrink:

Note that the arrow icon is now pointing upwards instead of downwards.
I have no idea if you'll even see this, since this blog is pretty old, but I'm the human behind the player Oberon, Bartholomue, etc. I helped design the sounds that you ue in Godwars 2.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying any way I can think of to try and inspire you to work on Godwars 2 again. I've always loved this mud the most. The sheer technical complexity of it and building chracters for it have always made me so in love with the game, and it makes me sad that you no longer have interest in developing for it.
I was wondering if you'd ever consider doing something like micro transactions for the game to bring in some extra income for you? Things like buying a daily rollover, buying fame/glory instead of having to war for it, paying to open a chaos realm portal, etc. Just anything to bring in income for you and hopefully inspire you to work on the game again. I really want to advertise it and get it hopping again.
On a side note, since the person you made moderator no longer logs on, if you ever see this, would you please consider making Oberon a moderator? I still log on to check on the game, hoping you'll change your mind and come back, so I'm at least around to approve pantheons and do things for players in the absence of an administrator.
I'm really hoping you'll reconsider Godwars 2. It's always been technically the perfect mud for me, and I really would love for some bugs and inconsistencies in it to be addressed, as well as to see fatebound and lich completed someday, rather than just abandoned.
This is one of the best muds ever created. It's neat and tidy in so many ways. People were just not ready for this new combat system. I love making aliases to string together complex chains on my Mage kama-wielding ninja! Godwars II is a work of art, a masterpiece. Truly!
ReplyDeleteThe classing system is deep but also well imagined, researched, and flexible through the subclass system. I'm still logging in to this very day now that the server isn't rebooting so much. I'd love to be a Moderator on it: my characters are Tancred, Tancredo, Antraeus, and Antreus, but I've been unable to retrieve some of my passwords (sadly).
There's some bugs I've discovered over the years and some mechanics need better documentation. I'm just glad that we were able to reach some of the staff this month, as it's a beloved game of many.
I've been following your work since discovering Godwars as a kid in the late 90's. Hope you're in good health.

ReplyDeleteYour frontpage isn't loading on Godwars.org currently. It would be cool to know if there's an official Reddit and Discord for the game so that we all can engage people who are fans of your work. The other month I created a sub-Reddit /r/Godwars2 and I'd be happy to hand it over to you into perpetuity.
